Oil-Water Separation Systems
Petro Barrier Systems' range of Oil-Water Separator (OWS) systems has been shown to reduce oil concentrations to
below five parts per million when properly sized for the water flow rates at a given location. This superior level of separation complies with many region's waste water discharge regulations without need for any additional actions, although we encourage our customers to add our Floor Drain Protector or Storm Drain Protector solutions to further reduce this to one part per million or less.
Several of these systems are already in place throughout British Columbia (Canada), and have been operating for years without the need for replacement or manufacturer service.
Oil Water Separator systems are ideal for locations that must deal with oily waste water that has far higher concentrations then the slight sheen seen in roadway or parking lot runoff. In these types of situations, standard filters may not the be ideal solution, as the high oil concentrations would result in a reduced filter lifespan and more frequent replacement costs. Locations in this type of situation are best served through the installation of an OWS system, which uses a non-chemical means to separate the oil from the water. Best suited for locations which handle large volumes of waste water, OWS systems are currently in use at several marinas. These locations have found that water used to wash down boat hulls is highly contaminated, and can contain both oil products as well as heavy metal concentrations due to the composition of marine paints. By using an OWS as part of a comprehensive water treatment system,
water recycling rates can exceed 90% and provide a significant long-term cost savings.
